Database Administration¶
(MS Information Technology)
A database administrator (DBA) is in charge of the database installation, development, storage, security, and backup. DBAs generally become experts in the specific Database Management Systems used to implement the databases in the enterprise. For this reason, professional certifications are often desirable, beyond course preparation. DBAs often work in tandem with network systems professionals and with information systems users; therefore some coursework in these areas is also preferred, to understand the system architecture and the users’ information requirements.
Consider these courses:
- COMP 453: Database Programming
- graduate version of COMP 305: Database Administration
- COMP 420: Software Systems Analysis
- COMP 451: Network Management
- COMP 477: IT Project Management
- required COMP 417: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues in Computing and four further electives
